My goal as an instructor is to inspire confidence through hands on learning and teach the social, technical and creative areas of photography and multimedia production.
I'm currently a journalism and photojournalism Associate Professor at the School of Media and Digital Journalism at Kent State University, a role I've cherished since 2014. My academic and professional journey is deeply anchored in Kent State, where I also completed my Master of Arts in Journalism Education that same year. This blend of practice and pedagogy has been an incredible chapter in my career, offering me the unique opportunity to both influence and learn from the next generation of journalists. Mentoring students through ethical challenges, internships, and personal projects are some of my favorite aspects of my job here at Kent State.

My path to academia was enriched by a pivotal experience at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine, where I earned a Master’s Certificate in 2010. This experience broadened my perspective on documentary storytelling, marrying my visual instincts with a deeper narrative engagement. My foundational skills in this field were honed with a Bachelor of Science in Photojournalism from Kent State University in 2009, marking the beginning of my commitment to capturing and articulating the world around us.
Transitioning from a student of photojournalism to an educator in media and digital journalism has been a fulfilling evolution, allowing me to share my passion for storytelling and to contribute to shaping the media landscape. I look forward to continuing this journey, fostering creativity, and inspiring curiosity in my students.
